Well that pretty much never happens
Look closely at this picture & you will see both babies are asleep at the exact same time. Too bad we were in the car. But its okay, I'll take a quiet, peaceful drive any day!

Firsts
We gave Cade his first taste of rice cereal last week. After a week of him trying to grab every single thing I put in my mouth, we figured it was time. He did great and we didn't hear a hint of Rylee's infamous humming which started with her first taste of rice cereal. Rylee got her first pair of goggles this week which she enjoys wearing in the shower and Cade drove a car for the first time. Oh and Cade has officially assumed the same sleep position Rylee used to love, arms tucked to the side with the butt in the air!

Siblings
I was so excited when Rylee asked me to take a picture of her & Cade. I was even more excited when Cade, who was propped up in the chair, slowly started sliding closer and closer to her. It was the cutest picture, especially because Cade had a HUGE smile on his face as he cuddled up on his sister.
But Rylee wasn't as excited. "Mama, mama, what's Cade doing!? Mama get Cade off!!! Mama, Cades touching me!" I kept trying to coax her into just flashing me a quick smile, "Rylee, your brother is not an alien. It's so cute when he cuddles you. Just look at mommy & smile." But in each picture she's hiding her face and wriggling her way off the chair. And in frustration, I deleted the photos. But looking back, it was quite hilarious & I wish so badly I would have saved those pictures to show you. Ahh, another lesson learned. Thankfully, I did get this really great photo of the two of them before all the sliding started.

My Rys
There is something about watching these two together that gives me warm fuzzies. We went on a trail through a local botanical garden last weekend which was not only beautiful and so close to our house (how did we never know?!), but it was also a terrific learning opportunity for Rylee. We saw lots of butterflies, and Rylee got some of her first big girl owies when she fell and skinned both elbows. She was tough, didn't shed a tear, and Daddy supplied her with bandaids as soon as we were home. She fell and skinned her knee the next day. Each time she catches a glimpse of one of her healing scabs, little tears well up in her eyes as she says "Mama, I got an owie." "Yes you did Rylee, but that owie is old and doesn't hurt anymore," I remind her. "Oh okay Mama, I'm strong girl," she tells me. Ahh, the very words her daddy tells her each time she falls. Love those two.

Cade Bear
Last week Rylee randomly started calling her brother Cade Bear. We have no idea how she came up with that one, but it's super cute nonetheless.
Over the weekend Cade turned 4 months old. He got his shots today and is handling them SO much better than last time. He weighed in at just under 16 lbs (53%) and is 23 1/2 inches long (69%). Someone is tall and lean just like their daddy.
He has been a drooling machine and stuffing every finger he gets his hands on right into his mouth. He is filling out his 6 month clothes nicely. Hopefully he stays in them for a while! He adores his sister. It is so sweet to see the huge smile he gets on his face anytime she pays attention to him, which has been more frequent lately. He loves to play peek-a-boo and so do the rest of us because he laughs sooo hard.
We love you Cade Bear!

Braids & the Babes
When I was a little girl I always wanted my mom to braid my hair. I remember her buying books about different styles of braids and we would try them out. Some styles were more successful than others, but French braids were always my favorite. So before we took rylee to her first Angel game, I had to give it a try. Get ready, because she looks like a little grown 5-year-old.
The kids did so good at the game. We forced Rylee to eat Red Vines (poor girl!) which gave her enough "energy" to stay up a few hours past bedtime. Cade took a couple breaks from staring at the field to nap. We were surprised we made it all the way to the 8th inning. Unfortunately when each parent is holding a child, there isn't anyone to take pictures, so I don't have any to share. We will have to work on that. We had a fun week over here. Play dates and lots of fun with our friends. Rylee is mildly obsessed with Candy Land and I am most certain Cade will be an "early" teether. You can see two little baby teeth trying so hard to break through that bottom gum. It is seriously blowing my mind. He is like a 7 month old trapped in a 4 month old body.

Draft Day & Then Some
The kids put on their Sunday best to cheer on the Lions last week during the NFL draft. Not only did they look adorable, they put a HUGE smile on dad's face as soon as he walked in the door!
Cade is beginning to sleep less which means he is awake more for pictures :) It also means I am feeling busier than ever. Just as we were getting all comfortable in our schedule, Cade decided it was time to switch things up. Change is inevitable, one of the many lessons of parenting!
But at the end of the day, I can't help but feel beyond blessed and honored and SOOO lucky to be raising these two little babes.
